Upon the 0.5 update of Medieval Engineers there was the introduction of possibly the most powerful tool to be introduced into the game, the shovel.

There are two different variations of the shovel, being the Wooden Shovel and the Iron Shovel. The wooden being easily obtained and the iron lasting much longer. There is also the introduction of the Landscape Stake, which is a small pen that is placed down and tied together with the Basic Rope. If you are unsure if you know that knowledge to make these items yet then simply check the  Medieval Engineers Research Tree.

An example of the terraforming method using the Landscape stakes is shown below.

Terraforming

First start by finding a good location that needs modified.

Then prepare the land by placing the Landscape Stakes down.
If there is a large volume needing to be filled in below the desired area it may be a good idea to try to place some of it before connecting the Landscape Stakes.
Staking off the area
Now Connect all the Stakes with rope and the area between all the stakes should be white. This will indicate the flat level you wish to create. Allowing for any dirt above this level to be lowered to the height of the white outline and any dirt lower to be raised to the height of the white outline.
Confirming the area
Now just simply have dirt in your inventory and place dirt while within the white area.
Filling it all in
Finally once all the dirt matches the height designated. Its now time to test the ramp, or loose your cart while it rolls away...
Testing the Ramp

The Landscape Stake can be used to terraform the land and mold it to your will. To allow the creation of nice flat farm, better housing plots, even make your own roads(No they don't count as actually roads but you can make them look exactly like a road in the world.) and so much more, the possibilities are only as limited as your imagination.
